Out to Sea

Fishing is an important part of Vietnam’s economy. With more than 2,000 miles of coastline, Vietnam has a thriving fishing industry that accounts for more than 10 percent of the GDP and attracts foreign investments.

For people working in the fishing industry, most of their lives are spent on the seas. Their work day can begin as early as 4:00 a.m., and they often stay out to sea for weeks at a time.

Average income for people in fishing can be anywhere from $10 to $40 a day depending on the weather and the season.

Though it can be a physically draining job, Vietnamese fisherman work together and support each other as they brave tough seas to bring in a catch each day.

Watch this short video by Radio Free Asia (www.rfa.org) to get a glimpse into the fishing industry of Vietnam.

As you watch, pray for the Vietnamese people in the fishing industry to have safety and provision from their work. Ask that God will send Christians to minister to local fishermen and women and tell them about the God who created the seas they navigate each day.
