Vietnam has 74 unique people groups with their own languages and cultures. Of these 74, only 3 are considered to be reached with the gospel, 48 are unreached, and 23 are still unengaged, unreached. This post highlights an unreached people group, the Thai people of Vietnam. Read about the Thai and take time to pray for this people group to turn to Jesus Christ.
The Thai people of northern Vietnam worship a myriad of things including their ancestors, the heavens, and the earth. Mainly farmers, each year the Thai perform rituals and pray for good crops. There are several subsets of the Thai people, such as the Black, White, and Red Thai.
In Vietnam, the Thai population is 1,307,000. On average they have a high school education and make about $100 per month. Out of the over one million Thai people, there are about 700 known followers of Christ.
Currently, the Thai have a New Testament, the Jesus Film, and audio recordings available in the Black Thai language. Though this group is considered to be engaged with the gospel, they are still unreached.
How to pray for the Thai people of Vietnam:
- Pray for the Thai to have the opportunity to hear and respond to the gospel. Ask God to send Christians to Thai villages to share the good news.
- Pray for the Thai to hear about the Creator God who is the one that truly makes their crops grow and gives them fruitful harvests each year.
- Pray for the 700 known Thai believers to grow strong in their faith and to share the gospel with other Thai around them.
- Pray for the Thai people to have access to the Christian resources that are currently available in the Black Thai language. Ask for more resources to be created in other Thai languages.
